Berthaphil’s founders Mr. Andre Hercz and family was invited by President Fidel V. Ramos to be the FIRST investor in the Clark Freeport Zone. Then Berthaphil worked tirelessly to clean up Lahar and meet the needs of The Clark Freeport. This is what made us the leading developer in Industrial, BPO/Call Centers, Commercial, Residential, Logistics and Aviation Properties. Berthaphil has had many accomplishments and many FIRSTs.

History Of Clark and our Milestones

Years
1903-1941
Beginnings as a U.S. Military Base
  • The area was Originally established as Fort Stotsenburg in 1903 by the U.S. Army, primarily for cavalry and infantry units.
  • In 1919, the site was renamed Clark Airfield in honor of Major Harold M. Clark, a U.S. Army aviator.
  • By the 1930s, it became a key airbase for U.S. military operations in the Pacific.

World War II
  • During World War II, Clark Airfield was a major base for U.S. and Philippine forces.
  • It was heavily bombed by Japanese forces on December 8, 1941, leading to its occupation.
  • The airfield was recaptured by ALLIED forces in 1945, serving as a base for operations during the liberation of the Philippines.

U.S. Air Force Era
  • Post-war, Clark Air Base became one of the largest U.S. military installations outside the United States.
  • It served as a critical hub for military operations in the region, including during the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
  • In the 1980s, it was home to the largest American military contingent in the Asia-Pacific.
  • The U.S. Government built Clark Airport for Space Shuttle landings.

Transformation into a Civilian Airport and Freeport
  • The Philippine government converted the former Clark Air Base into the Clark Special Economic Zone in 1993.
  • Renamed Clark International Airport, it began operations as a civilian airport.
  • Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos invited Mr. Andre Hercz and family to be the first investors in the Clark Freeport.

  • Berthaphil launched Clark Center, a 24/7 hub for BPOs and call centers.
  • First locators: IQOR, Sutherland, RCBC, Jollibee, and Kingsley.
  • Opened Berthaphil IV Office Center, now part of the Clark Airport Logistics Center, strategically located along the airport perimeter.

  • St. Paul American School opened the first K–12 private school campus in Clark Center.
  • Ateneo Graduate School of Business launched its Clark campus, supporting executive education in the region.
  • Major Quick Service Restaurant brands — Starbucks, Burger King, Chowking — opened at Clark Center, expanding retail offerings.
  • Gold’s Gym and The Medical City (now Kessler Medical Suites) established operations at Clark Center.
  • Berthaphil launched the Clark Airport Logistics Center, with AGX Logistics as its first locator.
  • The Clark Welcome Center was inaugurated, enhancing the visitor experience in the Freeport Zone.
  • 2017: The government integrated CRK into its "Build, Build, Build" program, accelerating airport and infrastructure development.
